İHAD Holds Four Seminars on Role of Muslim Religious Personnel in Preventing the Violence Against Women in Turkey

In the past three months, Human Rights Research Associaton (IHAD) organized four training seminars on Role of Muslim Religious Personnel in Preventing the Violence Against Women in Ankara, Istanbul, Bursa and Trabzon. A lot of Muslim Religious Personnel were joined to seminars.The participants included men and women Muslim religious personnel Next training programme will be in Diyarbakir, Sanliurfa and Mersin.The training seminars are comprised of 4 topics:

• topic 1: Introduction to Human Rights
• topic 2: Violence in Family and Honor Murders in Turkey
• topic 3: Women rights in international standards
• topic 4: Protective Mechanisms in Preventing the Violence Against Women  

 
 

Globalization of Human Rights

The book of “Globalization of Human Righs” was translated to Turkish by İHAD. The Debate Meeting was held by İHAD on 08th December 2007 in the meeting room of Mola Hotel in Ankara. Several subjects were discussed by participants including of the book “Globalization of Human Rights” which is published by United Nations University. Debating meeting was carried out as two sessions.  
     
  Firstly, a general discussion was made on the protection of human rights at the local level: incorporation of civil and political rights in domestic law.Debaters Mr Yilmaz Ensaroglu and Mr Kerem Altiparmak evaluated on extent of civil and poltical rights, juridical outline and constitutional situation following Mr Ayhan Bilgen’s presentation At the second session was discussed onhuman rights at international level and the place of economic and social rights in the power policy of states. Speaker Ms Feray Salman and debaters Mr Bülent Peker, Ertugrul Cenk Gürcan talked on this subject. All the debaters highlighted relation between civil and political rights and economic and social rights. Many questions were asked to speakers about this subject and they gave satisfactory answers  
 

Documenting Discrimination

A Training on "Documenting Discrimination: The Significance of Data Collection" was held on 5-6th November 2007 in Istanbul by EU Fundamental Rights Agency. Representatives of HRRA were joined to the training.   
 
Meeting the Psychosocial Needs of Refugeess 
 
“Meeting the psychosocial needs of refugees” training was held in Ankara, Hotel Mola on 24th -27th May, 2007. The trainer was: Courtney Mitchell, mental health therapist.The representatives of different organizations attended to the training.
